Taster Lesson - The Layback Scull

May 08, 2026

The layback sculling manoeuvre is one of the most useful and reassuring skills in Greenland rolling.

In this taster lesson from the new "Sculling Rolls and Manoeuvres" section of the Kalaallit Greenland Rolling Course, we focus on developing a relaxed and efficient back scull, a technique that not only improves your support and balance on the water but also builds confidence and reliability in your rolling.

In this new section of the course, Cheri Perry walks you through the learning process for two sculling manoeuvres and two sculling roll variations ⬇️

These new lessons cover:

➡️ The layback scull
➡️ The chest scull
➡️ The on-deck sculling roll
➡️ The under-hull sculling roll

Like all lessons in this course, we break each skill down into clear, manageable parts to help you really understand what is going on with your body, the boat, and the paddle.

You’ll get land-based drills to dial in the movement, combined with high-quality video, clear audio, underwater shots, drone footage, and super slow-motion to highlight the details that matter.

With expert demos, step-by-step progressions, and practical fault-finding, everything is designed to help you build confident, reliable sculling skills.
